End of Utena resonated with me in many ways. It’s message, it’s art, the lives of it’s characters – it did what made the series great and kept it more concentrated, poignant, and blatant, which I appreciated. It is a masterpiece, pure and simple, and I was glad that I could find a way to pay tribute to it’s art and message without sacrificing either. End of Utena will go down as one of my favorite anime, because it fills me with such a feeling that I cannot deny it’s impact. I hope that those feelings come through in this video.

Utena 3 begins with and, plot-wis,e more-or-less centers around the fact that Anthy Himemiya has no friends and Utena really thinks she should make some. F that, though, that’s bollocks and I don’t care – the real point of this episode was to introduce and acclimate us to the Kiryuu siblings, Nanami and Touga. Or as I’ve lovingly referred to them above, the fake-ass bitch and the real playa. Episode 2 of Utena has less to talk about because it is mostly exposition. This means I will not be doing the episode summary-style with annotations like I did the last one, but will just be pointing out some highlights, as it would be better that you watch the episode to get the exposition. I will also talk about one of the first Utena moments I ever saw – the slap heard ’round the world. The recently released remastered edition of Revolutionary Girl Utena has been subbed and is being torrented by hundreds as we speak. What better reason does the blogosphere need to engage in a massive series-viewing? Utena is one of the favorite anime of virtually everyone who’s seen it, and is only waiting to entertain everyone who has yet to do so. Love Utena? It’s time for a rewatch! Haven’t seen it? Now’s your chance! Utena has been the starting point for no shortage of brilliant posts on all kinds of blogs, but the talk of it is sporadic and uncommon. This is as good a chance as we’ll get for those of you who’ve wanted to discuss the show for a long time to do so with relevance, and for new fans to mingle in and get acquainted! Fandom is a strange thing, and one thing’s for sure – goodness does not dictate fandom. As ghostlightning always says, “fanboys are forgiving, not blind.” He supports this idea with his immense love for Macross Frontier in spite of the many flaws he himself professes it to have. Basically, this post is a rebel cry. SCREW GOOD SHOWS! FANBOYS ARISE! This is probably going to be one of my favorite lists ever. I want to list all of the things that probably mean more to me than they do to most people, some of which only I seem to ever talk about. These are some of my absolute favorite anime things, period – the kinds of things that make me an otaku. These are what I believe everyone else is missing out on. My most personal, precious anime treasures. They range everywhere from moments of dialogue to entire shows and occasionally artworks or others – and while I tried to exclude things that too many others would appreciate, some of these I’m sure are recognized by at least a cult support. |
