As many have pointed out in the past, anime has a bad habit when it comes to starting shows off. An opening episode of anime tends to start off almost grindingly slow, reserving the hook until after the commercial break. Why this has become such common practice is beyond me – when I went to go look for anime with good opening scenes, I was surprised to find a nice little handful, but infinitely more surprised at just what a small percentage that handful was.
The first decade of the formerly-new millennium is coming to a close, so it’s natural that everyone wants to have a go at recollecting it. The biggest trend so far has been talking about some of your favorite, or otherwise all of the noteworthy shows you saw this decade. I thought about doing that, but I realized there was a bigger fish to fry. I’m not just going to talk about some shows I liked – instead, what I have done is compiled a list of every single worthwhile anime of the past decade. I will now take a few paragraphs to explain to you how this was possible.
Sex is treated as a pretty big deal in storytelling. It, more than anything, seperates the mature stories from the lesser-mature ones, and creates depth in characters by it’s mere existence. Especially in anime, it’s one of the biggest character traits – after all the important moments in an eroge are the ones that get you into bed with your girl. Relationships are most defined by whether or not those involved are fucking or not. What we know about a character’s sexual experience is one of their biggest defining characteristics, even if that experience is none, and adverse reactions can be expected.
So, I’ve been known to talk about moe pretty often, and some would say I’m somewhat of an expert on the subject. However, one thing that has some people confused is how I define ‘moe.’ I’ve been too lazy to hive a proper explanation, so I am going to try and give you an idea of what moe is by, for better or worse, listing the top 5 most moe anime I’ve ever seen.
