The Bakemonogatari Girls Tried To Kill Me In My Sleep - From the Dream Diary of Digital Boy

t any given time, the amount of anime culture that i consume is directly reflected by it’s presence in my dreams, and when I’m ‘in deep’ like I have been the past couple of weeks, then I’m bound to have some crazy-ass anime influenced dreams. Last time I was turning into one of the Strike Witches, which was a pretty cool dream, but I knew that this couldn’t last because 99% of the dreams that I have are nightmares. Sure enough, last night I had a nightmare wherein the Bakemonogatari girls tried to kill me.

LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES FANS: I GIVE YOU THE REINHARD COOKIE (+ Anime Cakes)

Today is Funeral’s 22nd birthday, and for the past 5 days or so, he’s been cramming down Legend of the Galactic Heroes. 25 episodes in, he’s saying that he’s ‘more into it than he can remember being for anything’ and is already considering it among his top favorite anime of all time. When it came time for my mom, who designs cakes and cookies for all of our birthdays, to make him a birthday cookie, he didn’t even suggest any of his other obsessions throughout the year, such as Inglourious Basterds or Green Lantern, but went straight for Reinhard von Lohengramm. The rest, my friends, is legend.

200 (+) Anime Worth Taking With Us Into the Next Decade

The first decade of the formerly-new millennium is coming to a close, so it’s natural that everyone wants to have a go at recollecting it. The biggest trend so far has been talking about some of your favorite, or otherwise all of the noteworthy shows you saw this decade. I thought about doing that, but I realized there was a bigger fish to fry. I’m not just going to talk about some shows I liked – instead, what I have done is compiled a list of every single worthwhile anime of the past decade. I will now take a few paragraphs to explain to you how this was possible.

Clannad – Kotomi Arc – Before Yesterday, I Saw A Rabbit, Yesterday, A Deer, And Today, the Interior of Digiboy’s Anus

If there’s one thing that can absolutely be said about Ichinose Kotomi, it’s that she has amazing feet. Her feet (as well as her knees) are plastered all over the arc, even in the parts where she is a little kid. Damn, those lolicons at Kyoto Animation know how to get my jeans tight. (protip: I never wear jeans.)

My Top 10 Unskippable EDs

I think I’m going to start doing highlight posts on some of anime’s greatest OPs and EDs, since it’d likely be a lot of fun. As a way to sort of kick that off, this post is about some of the best EDs I’ve seen. EDs have a high tendency to be slower than OPs and feature less exciting videos, so I’ve had a long-time habit of skipping boring EDs after each episode, especially because I hate seeing the next episode previews. However, these are some EDs that are too great to skip. Now, while I never skip the ED when I like the song, it’s also rare that I stick around for the video, so to make this top 5 listing, it has to be a great song AND vid. Shows like Lucky Star with a different ed every ep don’t count.

Clannad – Fuuko Arc – The Hardest I’ve Ever Cried During an Anime (AND Anime Moments That Briefly Made Me a Woman)

It wasn’t about how much I cared for Fuuko or the story of Clannad itself. It was about how incredibly well-done the whole arc was, and expecially that episode. The pacing was superb. There was a perfect mix of absolutely hilarious jokes and totally gripping drama to instantly attach me to the cast and make everything that would follow a ton of fun. It was choosing the right shot or the right organization of plot elements, or the right timing, or the perfect music to make the situation JUST RIGHT.

No Reservation, No Hesitation, No Descrimination, No Limitation, Just Liberation (alt. Creation Station of Digiboy Nation) (alt. Caramell Dansen. I don’t know, it just felt right.)

When you watch anime like I do, there’s a lot of personal drama about it. For some people, they think ‘here’s my life, here’s my fandom,’ or the same about ‘real life and then the internet.’ I don’t have those distinctions. As you may know, the speed at which I consume anime is insane, and I am alwas online. I have, at times, been able to singlehandedly keep whole forums alive for good periods of time. My blog can escalate to 4 or 5 posts a day. I can respond faster than comments can accumulate, and I’m on a lot of sites. I am ‘internet everywhere.’ And lets not forget, all of my internet time is dedicaed to anime culture discussion. To some, this would mean I have no life, but it’s the contrary – anime IS my life. I have friends, both online and off, and our relationships are all based around anime for the most part (after all I met No Name over a Lucky Star fanbook.) Anime is the center of my life. It brought me out of a dark place, setting a foundation for happiness at the end of a longstanding depression. It gave me something to write about. It gave me people to talk to. It helped me develop a working philosophy (and sanity). It game me a dream. It would be impossible to overstate the importance of anime in every single area of my life.
