So, I got bored and wrote a pair of four-koma comics, both of which, in retrospect, feel an awful lot like Mistakes of Youth comics, only with the woman replaced by a very pissed-off bald guy and the artistic talent being replaced by very scratchy pen. The first one is more or less a true story, because Fakku uploaded this Tama-chan doujin today (NSFW) and I’ve been waiting for everyone to go to sleep so I can look at it >.> (in case there’s any confusion, Tama-chan = Tamaki Kawazoe from Bamboo Blade). As for the second one, I’m sure we’re all aware of Russian lolis by now? At some point, thinking you can handle anything is going to end up handing you something that keeps you from sleeping for nights on end…

Anywho, I’ve been watching Ranma 1/2 for almost 2 weeks now and I’m nearly finished! It’s an amazing show about which I plan to do many posts in the future. As such, my friend Zerodyme and I have been cracking jokes for a while about the ‘spring of drowned X’ stories that the Jusenkyo keeper tells. Some have been very hilarious, and so I wanted to do a comic in that vein.

It took me a while to decide what he should turn into. I thought about ‘spring of drowned fangirl’ but it seemed too general and I already have a fujoshi character. I wanted to be topical as well, and while Haruhi’s Endless Eight got a mention in my last comic, it really deserved it’s own joke while it’s still relevant! Plus, doing just ONE Endless Eight comic just doesn’t seem right :p Part of my reasoning was also that I wanted to draw Joe wearing sunglasses, though I’m not sure why that required him to be an internet troll.

And before you ask, yes, one of the biggest complaints that a lot of people had about K-On is that it wasn’t enough like Beck. I think I have a little bit of talking to do to these people. Oh, and I laugh every time I think ‘Clannad ASSter Story.’

This comic was written over 6 weeks ago and was never scanned due to my sheer laziness. It was never meant to be funny, really, and yet I felt it sort of was, and got funnier with each rewrite. I think it benefited from being held back, because of Endless Eight. The original punchline started as “With a new Haruhi and Eva airing at once, it can only get much, much worse” or optionally, “It could be worse. Be glad we weren’t watching in the 80s.” However, Endless Eight happened to provide the perfect punchline as it is the most confusing thing to blog in the universe.

At the time this comic was written, I also was watching next to no anime, thanks to a lot of stress I was under, however, it’s not like I wasn’t THINKING about anime all the time, so I still felt like a total otaku even if I hadn’t been watching. The joke about finishing a bunch of shows and reviewing them then blogging a little bit of the new season is how I’ve done most seasons, whether or not on purpose, but this time I didn’t actually finish ANY spring shows, and gave up on the summer blogging before I even really started XD. Had this been published with the original “the season is about to end so I’ll blog the summer shows” it would have been particularly embarrassing when I didn’t XD.

I’d be interested to know your thoughts on how otaku you feel when you aren’t watching anything. Also, yes, Joe is smoking in this comic. Joe is my idealized version of myself, which is just me with a girlfriend and smoking :p Yes, I support the idea that smoking makes you look cool!

Worst idea ever – “oh hei lets draw it in charcoal pencil and use marker for speech bubbles!” I  obviously missed the point of charcoal pencils entirely. Anyway, this joke will likely only be understood if you’ve seen/read Chobits, in which case you should get it semi-instantly. Though I showed this to my fujoshi friend who’d seen Chobits and she got the on switch part but not the part about the posing. I guess that part in the manga was more memorable for me since it had epic Chii underboob. But anyway, the important thing to take away from this is that Jenna is living with Joe for now. I know it probably seemed like that part went by really fast, but that’s how it’s been for me, having had any number of friends live with me lol.

If there’s one thing I do like about the art in this comic, it’s Joe in panels 5-7. I loved making him sit their holding the doujins and looking back then tossing them on the ground, plus that totally blank look on his face lol. And yes, Joe does actually throw his doujins on the floor every night in preparation of this potential situation.

I often forget about Nunnally until I end up seeing something that reassures me that she’s one of the hottest lolis in the history of the universe. And in my exploits, I’ve often thought it’d be hot to lick her smooth eyelids and/or eyeballs. Meanwhile, Jon makes the startling revelation that he’s a guro fan and completely oblivious to how that would be perceived by others. Don’t know what guro is? Darker Than Black season 2 has officially been announced, which is pretty cool. I actually like my attempt at style in this comic! I am aware that my comic is a scratchy mess to some, but I really love the way that scratchy pen looks which is why I draw that way lol. I think the big splotches of darkness are cool as hell XD. I did royally fuck up on November 11th’s mouth in panel 6 having not done this page in pencil first.

So I’ve actually gotten several comics ahead of myself and am going to set them to go up on predetermined dates and times, and I can push the chain back some whenever I wan to do a current event comic like this one. So that way the story will always be ready to progress (yes, I consider it a story) but I can jump in whenever I want for other stuff.

Darker Than Black – Users and Abusers – I review Darker Than Black

I really like this one. It’s anime-related, has all 3 characters and develops their personalities, and even the “art” was pretty good before I decided to try coloring in Paint (I do like how the couch came out, though.) This comic is pretty straightforward, especially with Ouran, which is one of those shows guys and gals can agree on for being universally awesome but also full of bishies. However, there is one truly exemplary reference there in panel 7. The line ‘this isn’t vanilla essence, it’s onii-chan essence!’ is one of my favorite lines from a hentai ever. It comes from Imouto Jiru, which is one of the greatest loli H anime ever with it’s only flaw being the shortness of the sex scenes. This line is a huge inside joke among my fans and probably anyone who’s seen Imouto Jiru, lol.

Will Jenna and Joe ever get past their sexual issues and hook up? who knows… (to be honest, I don’t feel comfortable trying to write a relationship having never been in one >_<)

I’ve intended from the beginning to implement a fujoshi into this comic, though I still don’t know how she’ll interact with the guys, so for now she’s soliloquizing on her own. I’m not sure how funny this is, since it’s broad and very general, but I do love the art in it (if you call it art) and I think it’s fun anyway, and at least somewhat relatable for girls (I showed it  to a fujoshi friend and she laughed.) You’ll notice I’ve not made a point to make her cute at all, she’s a straight-up nerd girl, but if you’re like me you probably find her cute for that exact reason. Since I’m sure you can’t read it, she’s reading Fruits Basket in panel 2 and Pandora Hearts in the last one.

This one is pretty straightforward, for those who don’t know Norio Wakamoto, he is the greatest voice actor to ever live, known especially for his deep voice and ability to say words extremely dragged out and manly sounding. This in particular is a reference to my favorite role by him as Gustav in Baccano! where he continually refers to his assistant, Carol, in an absurdly drawn-out fashion as “KYAAAARRRORU”. I’m trying to simplify the art a little (AS IF IT NEEDED TO BE MORE SIMPLE LOL) and make the joke more linear so that it’s easier to follow, since the last 2 comics were a little confusing I thought.

Just so everyone knows, these comics aren’t threatening to overtake my blog or anything, but with school near to ending I don’t have as much time for huge research posts and tons of anime watching for a couple weeks. I see it as a good chance to get a foundation of many comics for this seres to persist on – i.e. have a strong-looking archive from the beginning so this doesn’t look like some inactive or new comic that never updates.

Anywho, this comic is based on a true story. Back in 03 when Funeral and I got into anime, I used to be obsessed with magazine making (the precursor to blogging.) I made a 22-page thing called “Top 20 anime and manga” which had top 20 lists, reviews done by Funeral and I over the phone, none of which was more than a paragraph of us talking about how insanely violent all of our favorite shows were. Funeral is represented by Jon in this comic, who’s reviews were ALL given 10/10 ratings. And yes, back then, my favorite manga was Naruto, and Inuyasha was one of my favorite anime (though I actually think this magazine may have been made before it starting airing on Cartoon Network.

These are the reasons I don’t really dislike shounen anime, as they are fine for the people of their demographic, I just don’t like teenagers who watch them and then won’t watch anything else >_<

There are a number of impossible to decifer referrential hairstyles in here. In panel 4, Jon is supposed to look like Sanousuke Sagara from Rurouni Kenshin. In panel 5, I failed horribly at making him look like Inuyasha (he looks like the older elf guy in the lord of the rings), and in 6, I failed at making him look like Astro Boy, while Joe is wearing a Naruto headband. In the laast panel, John’s helmet is a reference to the helmet dudes from Megaman.
