Otakon is always about karaoke for me. In 2008, I performed Taiyou no Mannake e by Bivattche (Eureka Seven op 3) and SoulTaker by JAM Project (Op to The SoulTaker, my favorite anison, on accuont of JAM playing at Otakon that year). Sadly, I have no videos of those performances. In 2009, I legendarily and creepily performed Kuusou Rumba by Ootsuki Kenji to Zetsubou Shoujo-tachi (Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei op 1) which you can watch here. This year, I went all out and did three different songs, with a total of four performances, since I did one twice. I’ll be presenting them in the order they were performed, which is also a convenient gradation of EPIC scale.

THIS POST IS LOADED TO THE BRIM WITH GUNDAM 0080 SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT (BUT GO WATCH IT, IT’S ONLY 3 HOURS LONG AND IT’S REALLY GOOD) SD Gundam Sangokuden continues to be entertaining, but I have to admit I was just a bit distracted when watching episode 2. I couldn’t help but notice the extent to which in this show, Gundams are, in fact, people. And it rocks. I mean, this shouldn’t be that surprising. How many times has anime completely turned expectations on their head? Before anime, if you told me I’d love a show called ‘Princess Tutu’ I’d have laughed at you, and if you told me I’d get more emotionally attached to little girls and their everyday lives than to any ol’ samurai, I’d have looked at you funny. However, the truth is that anime has surprised me so often that I tend to be incredibly optimistic. I don’t understand people who still manage to think that all of a new season’s shows look like shit when likely half of them will be surprise jewels. So when I found out that there was, in fact, an SD Gundam Romance of the Three Kingdoms, there was not a shred of negative expectations. My younger brother just had his 17th birthday, so more anime cake! He immediately went for the classic RX-78 Gundam, seeing as he’s always been a fan of Gundams but only recently finally saw the original movies. He’s now working his way through Zeta, and for his birthday he got Master Grade Zeta Gundam and the new Char-like from Gundam Unicorn. After this and the Reinhard cookie, you are probably wondering why the rest of my family has better taste in anime than I do, and why you got stuck with me blogging about it :p More pics below! So, I finally saw Encounters in Space today, having watched the first movie twice in the past year or so and only 2 weeks ago managed to finally get to Soldiers of Sorrow. Anyway, the film was great, and had probably one of the greatest endings in movie history, but since I’m sure enough has been said about it (and really, if you’ve seen it, you understand), I want to talk about another of my favorite scenes from the film. |
