I began my freshman semester at Tidewater Community College’s Visual Arts center in late August, and one of my classes is photography. As an aspiring film director, I have already felt that I know how to direct well enough and didn’t need a class about that – all I need to learn is camerawork, namely lighting. This class has been very helpful in this department. Here are a bunch of pictures I’ve taken in the past month or so.
Aside from hundreds of random pictures of shit I took while warming up to camera usage, most of what I’ve done has been in the parameters of our first assignments – pictures taken using the “Rule of Thirds” and pictures taken using the “Close, Closer, Closest” technique. I don’t find the latter very interesting (and most of my pictures are of inane crap), so most of these are thirds. Most of them were also taken just last night.
All pictures were taken with a Canon Powershot SX110 IS tentatively named Dark Holy. None have been photoshopped. I’ve already gone ahead and made myself a flickr account with these images in there, so if you like what you see, be sure to subscribe to the flickr RSS.

This is Funeral looking badass in spight of wearing sunglasses at night. He say's it'll be his new account picture, lol.

Yes, I did tell Funeral to put on his Reservoir Dogs sunglasses, smoke a cigarette, and wear a leather jacket for my pictures.

However, cool as my brother, Funeral, and Zerodyme try to look, they llook like idiots wearing shorts with jackets!

This was a woman in our class who we made walk back in forth to try and get a panning shot. I thought this turned out splendidly.

This was one of the earliest images I shot and I have no idea why, but I find it completely entrancing.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I have some pictures of interesting stuff in the vast wealth I took in Portsmouth where the school is, but none where I was really attempting to take an interesting picture. These will do as the best from the last few weeks~ I had a lot of fun taking them!

those are goood. keep this up.
Nice classic bee shot! The pics of your brother laying on the lawn are pretty badass looking. You guys trying out for the next Blade sequel? =P
The hallway shot reminds me of a shot from a horror flick.
Just waiting for the blood to cascade down the hall, lol.
I like the hallway shot best. I can’t exactly say why, I just do – maybe its the angle or the crispness, who knows. I’ll admit I’d probably like the night shots a bit better if they were less grainy, although that may’ve been in part due to humidity on the evening you took them.
Also, the fact that your mom is in your college class? Dude, that is pretty fucking awesome. Legit.
I used to do photography, although I’m one of those Luddite types who refused to use anything other than the old 35mm Pentax my dad had bought back in 1980. Its actually in my desk drawer, but I never get the chance to use it, sadly ;_;
And as a pure aside, for some reason, whenever I see a blogger mention their college, I get this bizarre urge to point and shriek “I KNOW WHERE YOU GO TO SCHOOOOOOL”. Go figure.
>>I like the hallway shot best.
I’m glad to hear this, because it means I’m not just insane for liking it so much XD
Well, fuck, I don’t know why this posted twice, so feel free to delete this one.
“Funeral looking badass” at the top and the bee shot were my favorites. Very nice work. I used to work for a professional photographer and the poor sap didn’t have nearly as good an eye.
Funny you should say that since “Funeral Looking Badass” actually has some camera shake which you can see looking at his head.
Photography is one of those subjects I always wish I knew about, but could never be arsed to get into. All those manual lenses and fancy flashes and wonderful things like that. So, I can’t really comment on these photos, except to say that I like your experimental touch. And your brother looks exactly the way I imagined Lord Byron would look like based on his poetry.
ROFLMAO that’s how I imagine Lord Byron as well. And probably how my brother imagines himself!
